At Cherrybrook Technology High School, we encourage students to perform a range of music styles across a number of ensembles. The Music Ensembles Program is focused on musical excellence, as well as the inclusion of talented musicians and enthusiastic learners who can enjoy music and reap the academic, emotional and social benefits of extra-curricular music.
Choir
The choir is a non-auditioned group and is open to all members of Cherrybrook Technology High School. Students sing varied repertoire, mostly in 3 or 4 parts and perform on numerous occasions throughout the year.
Junior and Senior Concert Bands
The Junior Concert Band involves students of Years 7 and 8 and the Senior Concert Band consists of students from Years 9 to 12, with skills ranging from beginner to advanced. Instruments in the concert band include piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, tuned percussion (keyboard, xylophone), untuned percussion, drum kit and bass guitar.
Guitar Ensemble
The Guitar Ensemble consists of students playing both acoustic and electric guitars. The students in this ensemble develop their skills in reading music, chords, theory and techniques appropriate to the beginner or advanced guitarist. The ensemble encourages guitarists of all levels to develop their playing style and also have performance opportunities at school.
Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Ensemble is for students who play any percussion instrument and wish to extend their skills with performance opportunities. Students perform with a wide variety of instruments including, large and small mallet instruments and tuned and untuned percussion.
Big Band
Instrumentalists performing in other ensembles may also choose to join the Big Band. This ensemble is an audition only process. The Big Band feature and perform at many music events throughout the year. This ensemble is also available to hire for events.
