At CTHS our Social Justice Team consists of a diverse group of students from Years 7-12 all sharing the same passion – helping our community by raising awareness and funds for the work of several humanitarian organisations and projects!
Our school year is filled with various events to help raise awareness including the International Women’s Day assembly and World Refugee week. We continue to support and volunteer in external events including ‘We Are the Mainstream’ and the UNHCR Refugee Breakfast. We even helped make and sew over 100 handmade masks for the RPA Hospital NICU.
We have a few marquee events in the school calendar, including our Trivia Night, supporting our sister school in Cambodia, Smiling Hearts; as well as the Sleep Out, supporting Stepping Stone House in its quest to end youth homelessness. You can also spot our infamous gelato stall at International Day, and find our food drive boxes for Food Bank each Christmas around the school.
Students contribute their initiative, artistic, public speaking skills (and even their hair for the World’s Greatest Shave!) to the Team’s projects throughout the year, and in the process, gain or extend their confidence, management, and leadership skills. We welcome and encourage student-led projects.
Supervised by Ms Campbell and Ms Rochfort, the Social Justice Team has flourished into a strong and active group that continues to grow. Students from Year 7 up to Year 12 come together to battle injustices and brainstorm ways to actively assist in creating a safe and welcoming community. Meetings are held every week and are open to anyone who wants to help our school and the wider community. No need to sign up – just turn up!
